Lake Metroparks big weekend events

Railroads in the Park9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Lake Metroparks Farm park in Kirtland. All things trains, models, displays, exhibits, and kid joy.


Annual Amateur Photo Contest and Show Starts Saturday and runs daily 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Peitentiary Glen. If you want a slower paced outing that still gets you out, this is a good one.


Opening reception and awards Saturday at 1:30 PM at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center.


Geauga Park District

Bald Eagle and Osprey Kayak at Headwaters Park10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM For ages 10 and up with an adult.


Searching for Snakes at The Rookery10:00 AM to 12:00 PM This is the safest possible way to become the person who can say “I went snake searching Saturday.”


Stream Walk at Sunnybrook Preserve2:00 PM to 3:30 PMA classic summer style creek adventure without committing to a full day.

Out in the Parks: Hike and S’mores6:00 PM to 7:30 PM This is the Sunday evening win. You get outside, you get a hike, you get s’mores. It is like a mental health appointment with a marshmallow.

Lake Shore Live Steamers public train run Penitentiary Glen Reservation One of the scheduled 2026 public train run dates is June 7. Great add on if you have kids or if you are a grown adult who still loves trains, which is most of us.

Drop in Nature Craft: Solar Prints at The Rookery10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Low pressure, creative, and kid friendly.


Accessible Nature Cart Tours at Big Creek Park1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 3:00 PMA great option if you want nature time with less walking.

Best family day; Saturday at Lake Metroparks Farm park for Railroads in the Park.


Best date night; Friday Concerts and More at the Glen, then dessert somewhere you pretend you “just happened to drive by.”


Best simple Sunday; Out in the Parks: Hike and S’mores.


Best “tell your friends about it” choice; Bald Eagle and Osprey Kayak, or Searching for Snakes.
