Your Northeast Ohio Weekend Adventure Guide: July 10, July 11 and July 12, 2026

The fireworks have been fired.

The potato salad has been eaten.

The folding chairs have been returned to the garage, where they will remain tangled together until the next emergency.

And now we have reached one of my favorite parts of summer.

Regular summer.

No major holiday. No pressure to create the greatest weekend in the history of your family. Just a good July weekend in Northeast Ohio with a surprising amount of stuff happening.

There are outdoor concerts, art festivals, farm animals, paddling, stargazing, Superman under the stars, folk music, fly fishing, Bigfoot and even Texas Longhorns.

I am not sure who planned this weekend, but apparently the theme was, “Yes.”

So grab some water, apply the bug spray before you are already being eaten alive, and let’s find something worth doing.

Friday, July 10

Concerts and More at the Glen

Penitentiary Glen Reservation

There is something about live music outside on a summer evening that just works.

Lake Metroparks is hosting another evening of Concerts and More at the Glen at the outdoor amphitheater at Penitentiary Glen.

Bring a chair or blanket, settle in, and enjoy the music surrounded by the woods.

This is a good choice for couples, families, or anyone who wants to do something Friday night but does not want to shout over music in a crowded restaurant while paying nineteen dollars for a hamburger.

American History in the Sky

7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Observatory Park

This one caught my attention.

Geauga Park District is hosting American History in the Sky, a program exploring the relationship between astronomy, American history and the night sky.

Then, when the program ends, you can stay for...

Night Sky Viewing

8:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Observatory Park

If the weather cooperates, stick around and spend the rest of the evening under the stars.

Observatory Park is one of the best places in Northeast Ohio to spend a clear night. You do not have to know anything about astronomy to enjoy it.

Nobody is going to quiz you.

Nobody is going to ask you to calculate the orbital velocity of Jupiter.

You can simply look up.

Sometimes that is enough.

The Cain Park Arts Festival Begins

Friday through Sunday

Cain Park, Cleveland Heights

The 49th annual Cain Park Arts Festival opens Friday and continues through Sunday.

This is a juried fine art and fine craft festival featuring artists from around the country, along with entertainment and food.

Even if you are the person who normally says, “I don't know anything about art,” go anyway.

You do not need an art degree to know when something makes you stop and look at it.

That is sort of the point.

Saturday, July 11

Saturday is absolutely loaded.

You could pet a cow in the morning, hunt for Bigfoot after lunch, watch Superman in the evening and look through a telescope before bed.

Try doing that at the mall.

Farmfest at Lake Metroparks Farmpark

Free admission

Farmfest is one of the best family options of the weekend.

Lake Metroparks Farmpark is already a great place to spend a day, but Farmfest brings additional activities and demonstrations to the experience.

This is the kind of place where kids can learn where food actually comes from, see farm animals up close and experience something completely different from the normal Saturday routine.

Also, if you have a child who believes chocolate milk comes from brown cows, this may be the appropriate time for an intervention.

Summit Lake Float

8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Summit Lake NorthShore Park

For the water people, Summit Metro Parks is hosting the Summit Lake Float on Saturday.

There is something special about seeing a familiar place from the water.

The shoreline looks different.

The city sounds different.

Everything slows down a little.

Check registration and participation details before heading out, because paddling programs may have requirements or capacity limits.

Bird Nerds: Belted Kingfisher

10:00 AM to 12:30 PM

F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm

I love the name of this program.

No attempt to make birding sound cool.

No marketing department trying to call it Extreme Avian Observation.

Just Bird Nerds.

Respect.

This month's program focuses on the Belted Kingfisher, one of Ohio's most recognizable birds. The program begins with an indoor presentation, followed by an optional guided birding walk.

It is open to adults, teens and seniors.

Gone Squatchin' Bigfoot Festival

10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Middlefield

Yes.

There is a Bigfoot Festival this weekend.

And frankly, I appreciate Northeast Ohio for giving us options.

The Gone Squatchin' Bigfoot Festival takes place Saturday in Middlefield. If your family enjoys cryptids, folklore, unusual local events, or simply wants to spend a Saturday doing something you will definitely talk about later, this one earns a spot on the list.

I cannot promise you will see Bigfoot.

But if you do, please get a better picture than everyone else has managed for the last sixty years.

We have the technology now.

Art on the Hill

Saturday

Mantua

Art on the Hill returns to Mantua on Saturday.

This is a nice excuse to explore a smaller Northeast Ohio community while enjoying artists, makers and the atmosphere of a local summer event.

There is something I love about these community festivals.

You arrive planning to walk around for an hour.

Three hours later, you are eating something from a food truck, carrying a wooden sign you did not know you needed and explaining to your family that, technically, it was supporting a local artist.

Ohio River Valley Texas Longhorn Show

Friday and Saturday

Wayne County Fair Event Center, Wooster

Here is another one you do not see every weekend.

The Ohio River Valley Texas Longhorn Association is holding its annual show in Wooster.

If you have never seen a Texas Longhorn up close, they are impressive animals.

And yes, you will spend at least part of the drive home wondering whether you have enough land for one.

You do not.

Keep driving.

Superman Under the Stars

Activities begin at 6:00 PM

Movie begins at 7:00 PM

Observatory Park

Free

This may be my favorite family event of the weekend.

Geauga Park District is showing Superman outdoors at Observatory Park as part of its America 250 themed programming.

There is a genuine Northeast Ohio connection here. Superman was created in Cleveland by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and the 2025 film was also filmed in Cleveland.

Bring blankets, chairs, snacks, water and bug spray.

A summer movie outside, under the stars, watching a hero created right here in Northeast Ohio?

That is a pretty good Saturday night.

Night Sky Viewing

8:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Observatory Park

The telescopes and night sky viewing continue Saturday night.

So after Superman finishes saving the world, you can spend some time looking beyond it.

That is a solid double feature.

Sunday, July 12

Sunday does not have to be the waiting room for Monday.

There are some genuinely good reasons to get out of the house.

River Jamboree: Invertebrate Immersion

12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Hidden Valley Park

Lake Metroparks

This is one of the best hands on nature options of the weekend.

River Jamboree invites families to explore the world of aquatic invertebrates and discover what is actually living in our local waterways.

Kids love this kind of thing because they get to explore, search and discover.

Parents love it because it is educational.

Nobody has to tell the kids that part.

Music in the Valley Folk and Wine Festival

10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Hale Farm and Village

Saturday and Sunday

If your idea of a good Sunday involves history, live folk music and wandering through one of Northeast Ohio's most interesting historic settings, this is worth the drive.

Hale Farm and Village hosts Music in the Valley throughout the weekend.

The setting is part of the experience.

Old buildings.

Open spaces.

Music drifting across the grounds.

A slower pace.

It feels a little like stepping out of 2026 for a few hours, which, depending on the week you have had, may be exactly what you need.

Hidden Gems Hike at Whitlam Woods

10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Whitlam Woods

Free

Geauga Park District is leading a Hidden Gems Hike Sunday morning.

I am a big fan of hikes like this because they introduce people to parks and properties they may have driven past without ever realizing what was there.

Not every adventure needs a waterfall and a gift shop.

Sometimes a quiet trail you have never walked before is enough.

Accessible Nature Cart Tours

1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve

Free

This is a great option for people who want to experience the park but may not be comfortable with a long hike.

The accessible nature cart tours provide another way to get outside and experience the wetlands.

I am glad programs like this exist.

The outdoors should not belong only to people who can hike ten miles before breakfast and then casually mention it for the next six months.

There should be ways for everyone to experience creation.

Nature Journaling: Cicadas

1:00 PM to 3:30 PM

Big Creek Park

Geauga Park District is also offering a nature journaling program centered on cicadas.

This is for the people who hear a loud buzzing sound in the trees and think, “I should study that.”

The rest of us hear it and think the air conditioner is broken.

Both groups are welcome in nature.

Best Friday night

Concerts and More at the Glen followed by a quiet ride home with the windows down.

Simple. Easy. Summer.

Best family Saturday

Farmfest during the day, then Superman under the stars at Observatory Park.

That is a full day, but it is a good one.

Best unusual adventure

The Gone Squatchin' Bigfoot Festival.

You know you want to.

Best quiet adventure

The Hidden Gems Hike at Whitlam Woods Sunday morning.

Best hands on family experience

River Jamboree at Hidden Valley Park on Sunday.

Wear shoes that can get wet and accept that somebody will probably find something slimy.

That is usually how you know the kids had fun.

This Weekend's Adventure Challenge

Here is this week's challenge.

Do something that sounds slightly outside your normal routine.

Not dangerous.

Not expensive.

Just different.

Look through a telescope.

Learn about a bird.

Walk through a stream.

Watch a movie outside.

Visit a farm.

Go to an art festival.

Search for Bigfoot.

Summer has a habit of disappearing while we are busy making plans for it.

At some point, you have to stop planning summer and actually go live some of it.

July weekends are valuable real estate.

There are only so many of them.

The grass can wait a few hours.

The garage has been messy this long. Another day will not hurt it.

The email marked “just circling back” will, unfortunately, still be there Monday morning.

Go somewhere.

Try something new.

Bring somebody you love.

Come home tired for a good reason.
