May is the month when the woods stop whispering and start talking. Leaves begin to fill in, the ground dries out just enough to forgive your boots, and suddenly you can hear birds everywhere. If you have been waiting for the real start of the outdoor season, this is your green light.
Here is what is happening around Northeast Ohio this weekend, laid out so you can pick a vibe and go.
Friday, May 1

Then you can stay out for Hidden Natural Features of Edgewater Park from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. If you want a night option, Family Friday Night: Bats at Twilight runs from 8:00 to 9:00 PM.

How to choose without overthinking it
If you want one signature moment, do a moon hike Friday night at Observatory Park or the Flower Moon Night Hike at Munroe Falls.
If you want the best spring payoff per mile, chase wildflowers and bluebells in Cleveland Metroparks on Saturday.
If you want something that feels like you leveled up as an outdoors person, do archery at Lake Metroparks or hit one of the migration bird walks on Sunday morning.
What to bring
Bring boots you trust, a light jacket, water, and binoculars if you have them. This weekend has a lot of birds, a lot of blooms, and more than a few reasons to stay outside longer than you planned.
