This Weekend in Northeast Ohio (March 21–22) Maple syrup, spring hikes, kid-level science, and one very important Pinewood Derby pit stop

Ohio is doing that thing again where it pretends winter is still in charge… while spring is quietly moving in and rearranging the furniture.

So this weekend’s mission is simple: get outside on purpose—even if it’s just for a couple hours.

Here are the best camping-adjacent events and outdoorsy “mini adventures” happening Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 across Northeast Ohio. And yes—Medina Adventure Company will be at the Scouts’ Pinewood Derby at St. Francis Xavier Church on Saturday from 10:30–3:30. Come see us. (We’ll be the ones talking about adventure like it’s a personality trait.)

Saturday, March 21

⭐ Stop #1: World Water Day: West Creek Reservation (Cleveland Metroparks)

Hands-on activities and ways to appreciate the world’s most underrated survival item: water. This is a great family-friendly “learn something + be outside” event.

Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Why it’s worth it: crafts/activities + guided hikes + “this is actually pretty cool” vibes.

🥾 Spring Has Sprung Hike (Cleveland Metroparks)

If your body needs proof spring exists, this is how you provide it.

Time: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM

☕ Birds and Coffee (Cleveland Metroparks)

A perfect “I want outside, but I also want caffeine and competence” combo.

Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

🦫 Drop-by: Beavers (Cleveland Metroparks)

Beavers are basically nature’s contractors. Come learn why they’re awesome (and mildly chaotic).

Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

🍁 Maple Mania: Liberty Park / Nature Center (Summit Metro Parks)

This one is pure Ohio spring energy: trees, sap, syrup, and “how did I not know this?” facts.

Time: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

🌌 Astrotots + Frog Friends + Sunset Stroll (Geauga Park District)

Geauga Park District is quietly elite at family programs. This Saturday lineup includes:

  • Astrotots: Robots & Rovers (ages 3–5 + adult)

  • Astrotots XL: Rover Rendezvous (ages 6–11 + adult)

  • Frog Friends

  • Sunset Nature Stroll

Sunday, March 22

🛶 Learn-It: Kayaking (Cleveland Metroparks)

If you’ve been thinking “this is the year I do more water stuff,” this is your sign.

Time: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

🥾 Weekend Hike to the Eagle’s Nest (Cleveland Metroparks)

A solid “real hike” without turning your Sunday into a marathon.

Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

🌊 Hike to The Great Falls of Tinker’s Creek (Cleveland Metroparks)

Waterfall hikes in spring hit different. This is a great one for “I want a payoff.”

Time: 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

🐞 Icy Insects + Marsh Mammal Viewing (Geauga Park District)

For the curious and the brave (or families with kids who love critters more than cartoons).

Times:

  • Icy Insects: 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

  • Marsh Mammal Viewing: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Medina Adventure Company appearance this Saturday:

🏁 Scouts’ Pinewood Derby — St. Francis Xavier Church

Saturday, March 21 | 10:30 AM – 3:30 PMWe’ll be there cheering on the racers and talking about how to make outdoor time easier, more fun, and actually doable.

Come say hi. We love meeting local families, Scouts, leaders, and anyone who’s trying to trade screen time for story time.

Quick “What to bring” for Ohio spring weekends

  • Layers (Ohio will change its mind mid-sentence)

  • Waterproof shoes or boots

  • A thermos (coffee/hot cocoa = morale)

  • A small towel (mud season is undefeated)

  • Binoculars if you’re doing birds/wildlife

How to choose (without overthinking it)

  • Family + learning: World Water Day or Geauga’s Astrotots/Frog Friends

  • Simple hike: Spring Has Sprung / Eagle’s Nest / Great Falls

  • Food + Ohio vibes: Maple Mania

  • Try something new: Learn-It: Kayaking

Come back next week

This is your standing invitation to make this a habit: check the Weekend Guide, pick one thing, go outside, repeat. The best adventures aren’t always epic. They’re consistent.

Live Stories Worth Telling.
